Rita Hester Community Green

Location / Allston, Massachusetts
Client / New England Development

Located at the heart of the Allston Yards development, this new public park is designed to foster connection, creativity, and reflection. Copley Wolff led the park’s design as part of the broader Allston Yards Master Plan, an ambitious, transit-oriented project near Boston Landing. The park anchors a new mixed-use community of housing, retail, and office/lab space, transforming a former industrial site into a vibrant neighborhood hub.

Designed for flexibility and year-round use, the park offers a range of programming and amenities, including a dog park, flexible seating, and a central green for exercise, movies, music, markets, outdoor games, and festivals.

The Community Green honors the legacy of Rita Hester, a Black trans woman and beloved Allston resident whose life was tragically taken due to anti-trans violence. Her memory is woven into the spirit of the park, which serves as a space of welcome, resilience, and inclusion.
